1. Multidimensional research of academic exchange and creativity in the EU : doctoral dissertationDarija Korkut, 2025, doktorska disertacija Opis: Creativity and innovation have been recognized and promoted by global economic institutions and actors as key skills for the future that will help individuals adapt to the rapid changes caused by technological advances. Research shows that employees with developed creative thinking, innovation, and problem-solving skills are and will remain the most valued on the labor market. At the same time, creativity and innovation have become key components of teaching methodology and educational programs at all levels. An extensive body of research has been carried out in the area of creativity and innovation in national education systems around the world, with two aspects being considered: the first relates to a creative and innovative approach to teaching, and the second to a methodological approach that encourages the development of creativity and innovation in students. The third direction of creativity and innovation research is the influence of creativity and innovation on the progress of the country's economic growth, competitiveness and prosperity.
The main objective of the research in this dissertation is to examine whether creativity and innovation in international academic exchange contribute to the economic and social value of the country. The research aims to understand the life of an academic exchange network, and its influence on a receiving and sending country’s creativity measured by innovation indices. We investigate correlations and possible causalities using a multidimensional study of academic exchange and innovation. For this purpose, the positions of countries and academic institutions in academic exchanges are determined with the help of social network analysis, and evidence of correlation with the economic and social value of the country's economy is obtained through regression analysis.
This research contributes new quantitative evidence supporting the hypothesis that innovation thrives due to the diversity of academic exchange, using SNA, statistics, and econometrics. Until now, the combination of creativity (expressed through innovation), education (through academic exchange), and network analysis (through SNA) has not been thoroughly examined in scientific literature. This study aimed to address this gap by conducting a multidimensional analysis of academic exchange and creativity/innovation, assessing their effects on the innovation performance of EU member states. 2. Methodological framework as a decision-support tool in addressing NFTs and blockchain projects in the tourism industryRaffaella Folgieri, Sergej Gričar, Tea Baldigara, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are an emerging application of blockchain technology, with the potential to transform various industries, including tourism. Despite conceptual discussions that have highlighted opportunities and challenges associated with using NFTs—such as in digital souvenirs, ticketing systems, loyalty programmes, and conservation initiatives—there is a critical gap in the literature consisting of the lack of a structured methodological framework to empirically evaluate the impact of real-world NFT implementations. This study addresses this gap by proposing a conceptual model and methodological framework designed to assess NFT projects in the tourism sector. The framework integrates diverse data collection methods, advanced analytical techniques (including econometric analysis, natural language processing, and machine learning), and a technological workbench for tracking key performance indicators (KPIs). To demonstrate its applicability, the framework is applied to the Dalmatia NFT project, an exploratory application in cultural tourism. The considered example highlights the potential of NFTs to enhance tourism experiences while addressing challenges such as scalability, sustainability, and user engagement. This study concludes with insights into the framework’s practical implications for stakeholders and outlines future research directions for empirical validation. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, this study aims to provide a robust foundation for effectively integrating NFTs into the tourism industry. 5. The role of transnational value chains in regional innovation. Analysis of Central and Eastern European regions engaged in automotive and electronics production networks : doctoral dissertationCristian Gangaliuc, 2022, doktorska disertacija Opis: The thesis touches on important concepts of innovation and regional development. Their
empirical relevance for economic and social growth is a subject of active debate. Studies
revealed that interactions have a major impact, de facto, on the capacity to innovate.
Diversifying knowledge sources, joint ventures and co-creational practices can explain much
of the locational factors and innovation in a-spatial networks. With the rise of globalisation,
scholars found that Multinational Corporations and their global production chains are
integrating more and more into regions worldwide. They share practices and engage local
stakeholders in their innovation projects. This research aims to explore the importance of
locational and global factors in this process. The goal is to see how these two forces contribute
to innovation separately and when intertwined regionally, closing the gap between regional and
global innovation frameworks.
The thesis contributes to science by developing a new synthesis model based on mainstream
Innovation theories. It includes the endogenous and exogenous forces that create environmental
pressures and opportunities, pushing economic agents to innovate. The central aspect of this
model is the acknowledgement of the multiscalar nature of innovation. Local institutions,
mindsets and influence from the production chains create conditions and pressures in the
network, which motivates companies to innovate. Depending on the local competencies and the
needs of production networks, it creates various environments for companies. It is up to
enterprises to use created opportunities, which can be local, national or global.
Data collected in eight (distinct) regions in Central and Eastern Europe (active in automotive
and electronics industries) was used in qualitative and logical analysis to observe patterns in
regional behaviour. The results revealed that endogenous and exogenous forces act
circumstantially in each region, partially proving all the hypotheses on endogenous and
exogenous factors and validating the model. Each region displays different rates of local and
regional engagement and, thus, different patterns of innovation, determining their competitive
potential. The research also revealed additional factors (e.g., the importance of trust,
particularities of information diffusion, etc.) relevant to innovation in Central and Eastern
Europe. Ključne besede: innovation, regional development, transnational value chains, networks, institutions, cognitive mindset, regional-global co-operation Objavljeno v ReVIS: 25.10.2022; Ogledov: 3129; Prenosov: 88

6. Technologies and Innovations in Regional Development : the European Union and its strategies2022, znanstvena monografija Opis: The subsequent volume revolves around the Social-Fields-Approach (SOFIA) as an approach to conceptualisation and operationalisation for the purpose of empirical research. It contributes a new perspective and approach in research on innovation. We believe that SOFIA can have implications for both academic research and practical applications in reshaping the existing instruments and governance arrangements in innovation policy. Whilst aplying SOFIA, we urge researchers to leverage the plurality of different qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method approaches in innovation studies, including less conventional methods, such as QCA (Ragin, 2008). Diligent application of SOFIA can also subsequently lead to the development of high-level theoretical contributions. 7. Technology - mediated commuting: research on 2020 pandemic switch to remote workMarsel Valiev, 2020, magistrsko delo Opis: In today's world more and more workflows take place online. Business meetings are replaced by conference calls and it is not necessary to print an important document to sign it, just click the mouse a couple of times. As a result of technical progress, many companies and employees have come to the conclusion that it is possible to interact quite comfortably on a remote basis, yet maintaining a high efficiency level.
Remote work is a global trend which is not a surprise since such an approach to the organization of labor has many advantages the first of which is economic and environmental benefit. A company with a staff of remote employees does not need to maintain an office: spend on stationery, pay for utilities and rent. The employee saves money on travel, food and can get additional sleep in the morning, something we all need sometimes. It is usually difficult for an employee to maintain perfect balance between personal life and career in the traditional way. He spends a lot of time in public transportation or in a traffic jam, periodically lingers in the office and gets exhausted, when he is late to work, he gets nervous, and things just do not go well.
What if it could all be different from how we used to do it? In this research, I set myself the task of highlighting the problem of how ineffective some of our actions are simply because we do some things the way we have beeen doing them for ages, rather than rethink and do them in the right way. 8. The measurement of innovation for management, research and policyCristian Gangaliuc, 2019, pregledni znanstveni članek Opis: This paper is a literature review regarding the known practices of measuring innovation, for policy, research or management purposes. Article is deliberating on the importance of known and most notable methodologies, such as innovation survey, interviews, case studies and mixed research. The following methodologies are presented with regard to their strong and weak points, to perform an objective evaluation and exemplification. Alongside methodologies, paper concentrates on the practices of innovation measurement, such as approaches taken by the OECD and EU assessments, presenting the possible angles that can be conceptualized during conceptualization and innovation measurement. The article ends with the presentation of the concept of Management of Innovation, that is a growing paradigm that emphasizes the ability of an actor to innovate rather than its development outcomes. Following the line of presented methodologies, approaches and considerations, conclusions outline that innovation is becoming more and more a social phenomenon, rather than a purely technical one. That presents an opportunity to build practices of including innovation into the semiotic and economic dialogue of national and supranational bodies, and not limit the policy of innovation to regional or national strategies.
