Post-Crisis Analysis of Media Consumption and Perceptions of the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Study of Moroccan Youth in Urban Areas
Anoire El Attari, Belaziz Hind, Tenkoul Abderrahman, Borass Nouhaila, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This study investigates the impact of media consumption habits on the perceptions of the COVID-19 pandemic among Moroccan youth in urban areas. A quantitative method was employed, combining survey data, chi-square tests, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. In total, 872 responses were collected, and the analyses revealed that digital media consumption by Moroccan youth led them to more critical views of the pandemic’s media coverage. The regression analysis showed that the emphasis on the origins of the virus was an important aspect that influenced the respondents' assessment of the coverage. The findings highlight the importance of understanding how different age groups perceive and interpret media coverage during health crises. Effective communication strategies must consider the informational needs and motivations of diverse audiences.

The Synergy of industrial symbiosis, social media, and sustainable development : shaping a circular future
Erika Džajić Uršič, 2026, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: This chapter explores the dynamic interplay between industrial symbiosis and social media as catalysts for sustainable development. Industrial symbiosis as a circular economy approach and digital innovation are now tangible and unstoppable realities that profoundly affect every sector of our society, while social media and the web serve as crucial and indispensable platforms for dissemination. This is like a stage and a privileged forum from which to observe, understand and attempt to change the complexity of reality. This combination is particularly relevant for the new generations. Social networks are integral to companies’ and brands’ new communication and sustainable development models. This chapter discusses industrial symbiosis, a collaborative concept where industries share resources and waste. Simultaneously, it explores how the changing role of social media aligns with these principles, promoting a more responsible and aware approach to development and communication.

Mass Media and the Rise of Populism
Matevž Tomšič, 2026, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: This chapter examines the role of the media in the rise of populism in contemporary European democracies. In doing so, it highlights the characteristics of populist politics, particularly in terms of how its messages are disseminated and the mechanisms it employs. It also analyses the changing nature of media in interdependence with other social changes. One can assume that the influence of the media on the spread of a certain—in this case, populist—type of political message depends on the broader political constellation and the political impulses to which people are exposed. It can be claimed that although the media undoubtedly influence the spread of populist messages, they are not the ones who either enable or prevent the success of populist protagonists. A lot depends on their rivals from the ranks of established politics.

The Role of media education in industry 5.0
Mateja Rek, 2026, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: The article examined how the existing digital media education framework for children and youth in Slovenia aligns with the humancentric principles of Industry 5.0, focusing on human-machine collaboration, ethical engagement with technologies and the future workforce’s digital competences. The article provides insights into how youth themselves perceive how they were media educated growing up in our society. Through analysis of focus group discussions, the study highlights potential gaps or deficiencies in how media education is currently conducted in our society, especially in the context of preparing children and youth for the challenges and opportunities of Industry 5.0.

Regional media as bearers of mediatized constructions of regional identities : doctoral thesis of the third-cycle Bologna study programme Strategic communication management
Maruša Mavsar, 2025, doktorska disertacija

Opis: Confronting the pandemic has strengthened the shift of attention of research bodies and institutions to the subnational levels of governance, to micro-regions, and the sustainable core of local communities, where the sociocultural glue of regions, the invoked collective identity, enhanced resilience and enabled solidarity in the most difficult times. Local news was crucial for informed decision-making in many communities, and lived experience emphasized the need for a strong communication ecology, in which citizens must have access to essential information about issues impacting their daily lives. However, both domains, local news and regional identity, and especially their intersection, are under-researched in the two neighboring countries, Slovenia and Croatia, which bridge the Central European and Mediterranean worlds. In a period when news deserts are expanding, despite this recognized value of locally invoked societal resilience, and the media landscape of the countries in question is facing severe challenges stemming from a lack of pluralism, our dissertation focuses on identifying concrete multimodal tools and strategies through which regional media, on a daily basis, foster identification with subnational spaces, co-create regional consciousness, and connect the audiences living there. After the strong theoretical foundations, which aimed for an interdisciplinary view, we discerned various multimodal ways in which regional outlets mediate and mediatize regional identities in four regional newspapers and ten digital media from the two countries. We conclude that a reframed view of smaller media outlets as important catalysts of regional identity formation could help strengthen the overall development of regions.

The false information epidemic in social media : overview of recent developments and research
Blaž Rodič, 2024, objavljeni povzetek znanstvenega prispevka na konferenci

Opis: Throughout history, crises in human society have often been accompanied by unintentional (misinformation) as well as deliberate (disinformation) spread of false information, dating back to ancient Egypt. However, the rise of online social networks has brought the magnitude of the so-called 'fake news' phenomenon to an unprecedented size. The World Economic Forum identifies disinformation as one of the foremost threats to human society. In our digital society, the rapid and widespread propagation of false information poses significant challenges to democratic processes. This contribution provides an overview of research on the spread of false informationon social networks, with a focus on major global crises such as the U.S. elections, the Covid-19 pandemic, and the war in Ukraine, and presents the results of our ongoing research project in this area.

Social media bot detection research : review of literature
Blaž Rodič, 2025, strokovni članek

Opis: This study presents a review of research on social media bot detection. Social media bots are used by political and criminal actors for mass distribution of political messages, as well as rumors, conspiracy theories, and other forms of false information. Through the spread of disinformation, bots are eroding the public trust in political and media institutions and integrity of social media. We have examined recent research publication in the field of social media bot detection, including several previous reviews of bot detection research, and identified the methods used in bot detection and issues encountered by researchers. Our review was conducted through a search of 5 main bibliographical databases, which has produced a total of 534 research papers and other publications. This collection was then filtered with exclusion and inclusion criteria to isolate the most pertinent documents, resulting in a focused selection of 49 documents that were analyzed for this review. In the first part of the paper we introduce the phenomenon of fake news within social networks, its connection with social media bot activity, and conclude the introduction with issues caused or exacerbated by bots. In the main part of this paper we first present the results of statistical analysis of the reviewed documents and then introduce the field of social media bot research, followed by an overview of the issues of social media bot detection identified in the reviewed literature, including the evolution of bot concealment techniques and the methodological issues presented in some of the bot detection studies. We then proceed with an overview of the methods and results from the reviewed research papers, structured according to the main methodology used in the examined studies. Our review concludes with examination of the recent trends in social media bot development and related bot detection research.
