Pregledane so bile naslednje baze podatkov: MEDLINE, CINAHL, COBISS, Google Scholar, PubMed in ScienceDirect. Povezanost prehrane doječe matere z zdravstvenimi težavami dojenega otroka ostaja nejasna, zato bo potrebnih več raziskav ter dokazov o neposrednem vplivu.

Naslov:Nutrition of a brestfeeding mother and the incidence of health issues in brestfed infants
Opis:Theoretical background: Breastfeeding is the most suitable method of feeding newborns. Various types of formula milk are now available worldwide as alternatives to breastfeeding. However, breastfeeding offers numerous benefits for both the mother and the breastfed baby. The composition of breast milk meets the needs of newborns. For successful breastfeeding and optimal milk composition, the nutrition and lifestyle of the breastfeeding mother are also essential. Consuming at least three main meals and two snacks per day, incorporating all food groups, is necessary for the well-being of both the mother and the breastfed baby. Harmful habits such as alcohol consumption, caffeine intake, and smoking can negatively affect the composition of breast milk. As a newborn's immune system is immature and underdeveloped, they are more susceptible to certain health issues. The most common health problems in infants include functional gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory diseases, and allergies. Nurses play a crucial role in providing information on breastfeeding, balanced nutrition, and infant health concerns. Method: The theoretical part of the study employed a descriptive research method, involving a review, collection, evaluation, and analysis of domestic and international scientific and professional literature. The following databases were consulted: MEDLINE, CINAHL, COBISS.SI, Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. The search was conducted in both Slovene and English. Data collection was carried out using a survey questionnaire, with participation invited from mothers who are currently breastfeeding or have breastfed in the past. The empirical part applied a quantitative, causal, non-experimental research approach. Results: A total of 695 respondents, all of whom are either currently breastfeeding or have had previous breastfeeding experience, participated in the study. The majority of respondents exclusively breastfeed and consume at least four meals per day. Most did not change their dietary habits during breastfeeding, although a significant proportion eliminated dairy products and freshly prepared food. The majority of respondents felt they had received sufficient information on nutrition during breastfeeding, breastfeeding itself, and infant health issues, with nurses being their primary source of information. Most respondents avoided alcohol and nicotine while breastfeeding, but they frequently consumed coffee and other caffeinated beverages. Gastrointestinal issues, particularly bloating, stomach cramps, and reflux, were the most commonly reported health problems among infants. Mothers who followed a diverse and varied diet reported fewer health issues in their children. When asked whether they believed their diet influenced their breastfed child’s well-being, most respondents stated that their diet did not affect their child's health or overall condition. Discussion: The nutrition of a breastfeeding mother is a key factor in ensuring the well-being of both the mother and the breastfed baby. A balanced and varied diet provides all the necessary nutrients and contributes to the optimal composition of breast milk. While harmful habits such as alcohol consumption, caffeine intake, and smoking do not directly cause health problems in breastfed infants, they can negatively affect the nutritional quality of breast milk. Access to reliable information on healthy nutrition, breastfeeding, and infant health issues—particularly from healthcare professionals—is essential for breastfeeding mothers, as greater awareness has a positive impact on both the mother and the child. Digestive problems remain the most common health issue in breastfed infants and can significantly affect the family’s quality of life during the first months. The relationship between a breastfeeding mother's diet and infant health problems remains unclear, highlighting the need for further research and evidence to establish a direct link.
