Opis:Dementia, particularly Alzheimer’s disease, represents a significant global health challenge. A common and dangerous symptom is wandering, exposing patients to risks and causing substantial caregiver distress. Electronic tracking devices, including GPS, RFID, and Bluetooth technologies, offer promising solutions for enhancing patient safety and independence by enabling real-time location monitoring. Despite their benefits in reducing caregiver burden and maintaining patient autonomy, these technologies face challenges such as ethical concerns regarding privacy, technical limitations, and high costs. This review synthesizes research from 2010 to 2024, evaluating the effectiveness, benefits, and ethical dilemmas associated with these devices. It highlights the critical need for robust ethical frameworks for informed and dynamic consent, improved device reliability (e.g., hybrid indoor/outdoor systems), and the development of cost-effective, accessible solutions. The aim is to provide comprehensive insights and propose pathways for future research and enhanced implementation of tracking technologies in dementia care.
