Title:A COMPARISON OF THE SCHULTZ-HENCKE’S TYPOLOGY OF PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT WITH ATTACHMENT THEORY
Abstract:In this diploma thesis, we are interested in how the Schultz-Hencke’s typology compares to attachment theory, both the categorical and the dimensional model. Using the method of a critical and systematic review of literature, we can conclude that the schizoid personality structure corresponds to the description of the disorganized attachment style, the depressive one corresponds to the ambivalent style, the anankastic-obsessive comes closest to the secure attachment, and the hysterical structure can be described similar to avoidant attachment styles. Both theories are non-pathological but individual characteristics in people are more or less clearly reflected in everyday life. Each of them in their own way explains the closing of the vicious circle, which leads us time and time again into relationships and situations that are familiar to us from early childhood. Many negatively evaluated experiences are basis for a development of personality and mental disorders. Schizoid, paranoid, delusional and dissociative disorders are typical for schizoid personality and disorganized attachment style. In the second couple, we can identify depression and other mood disorders, higher suicide rate, feelings of hopelessness, and abuse of alcohol and psychoactive substances that lead to addiction. Although the anankastic-obsessive structure reminds us of a secure attachment, in its extremes, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive or eating disorders and impotence can be developed. The hysterical structure and avoidant attachment style are characterized by substance abuse and promiscuous behavior, dissociative disorders, and various phobias. A dimensional model helps us to compare all eight categories with each other. It places dependency on one axis and avoidance on the other. It sheds light on the importance of an established positive relationship with ourselves and others.
