Abstract:Teoretična izhodišča: Mentalna higiena predstavlja skrb za duševno zdravje posameznika. Pri tem je potrebno najprej zagotoviti temeljni potrebi prehranjevanja in spanja.

Title:MENTAL HYGIENE IN THE WORK PLACE OF A NURSE
Abstract:Introduction: Mental hygiene depicts concern for the mental health of an individual. In doing so, it is first necessary to ensure the basic needs of eating and sleeping. Mental hygiene focuses on the individual's mind and promotes individual well-being. There are a variety of activities that anyone can use to feed their mind and improve their life and psychosocial competence. An individual's high emotional intelligence has a positive impact on his performance at the workplace and is associated with mental hygiene. Individuals with highly developed emotional intelligence are more successful at resolving conflicts or in negotiations, they cope with stress more easily and are thus more efficient motivators. The purpose of the research is to examine mental hygiene in the medical workplace of a nurse. Methods: The research was based on a qualitative research approach and descriptive work method. For the needs of the empirical work, primary data that was collected and analyzed was obtained through interviews. Collection of secondary data was done with the help of internet databases (biographical databases, PubMed, SpringerLink, Cobiss). Results: Nurses know the importance of mental hygiene. They interpret it as care for mental health and well-being. For some, mental hygiene means taking care of the mind, spirit or thoughts. With the help of mental hygiene, nurses manage stress and emotions more easily and have an easier time expressing emotions. Most interviewees imagine mental hygiene as self care. One of the interviewees connects mental hygiene with physical health. Nurses take care of their own mental health by talking, reading books. with walks in nature, music, physical activity, meditation, breathing exercises, hobbies, watching movies, maintaining daily routines, maintaining interpersonal relationships, positive thinking, good company, with self-esteem education, trips, family outings, lying on a deckchair and getting enough sleep. Nurses say that emotional intelligence and mental hygiene are interconnected and that the connection is key. A developed emotional intelligence enables nurses to cope better with stress, understanding, managing emotions and coping with them. emotional intelligence affects the making of quality decisions, the construction of quality interpersonal relations with colleagues, which leads to greater job satisfaction, causes less conflicts and improves mental health in the workplace thus enabling emotionally intelligent individuals to know how to take care of their mental hygiene, devote enough time to it and have an easier time taking care of it. Discussion: The uderstanding of nurses regarding mental hygiene, emotional intelligence, mental health and risk factors in the workplace correspond to the theoretical starting points. The term risk factor itself was only used in the interviews by one person, but that does not mean that the risk factors are not known by nurses. Given that the findings show that poor interpersonal relationships, misunderstandings, threats, disrespect, arrogance, treachery are the reasons for a bad workplace environment, each individual will still have to do a lot regarding their own mental hygiene.
