Abstract:3D printing is the process of producing three-dimensional solid objects from a digital model. Year after year, this technology is integrated into many areas and optimizes the course of their processes. With the thesis, we investigated how 3D printing technology is reflected in intellectual property rights databases, specifically patent databases. Patents are a means of protecting inventions, where we were interested in how many inventions were created in this field in the past, when the first patents in this field appeared, and how new inventions were created from the basic idea. We found that the trend of 3D printing technology indicates growth and that the number of inventions will continue to increase in the future, especially in the field of medicine. Among the countries, in terms of the number of patents, the USA is the first country, followed by Japan, but there are also some patents in the field of 3D printing technology in Slovenia.
