Abstract:POVZETEK Teoretična izhodišča: Samooskrba se nanaša na zavesten trud pacientov za ohranitev oziroma izboljšanje lastnega zdravja in odločitve glede blaženja starostnih simptomov.

Title:SELF-CARE FOR THE ELDERLY IN THE LOCAL ENVIRONMENT
Abstract:ABSTRACT Theoretical background: Self-care refers to deliberate actions and behaviors that patients use to maintain and improve their health and make decisions about alleviating their symptoms. Inadequate self-care is one of the most important factors influencing the poor prognosis of a disease and is directly related to the deterioration of the patient's condition. The aim of this study is to investigate the self-care of older people in the local area of the Posavje statistical region from the perspective of healthcare professionals. Methods: The research is based on a quantitative research approach and a descriptive method. For the empirical part, primary and secondary sources were collected, analyzed and synthesized. The primary data for the analysis was obtained through a survey technique. Data sources also include a review of domestic and foreign literature and online databases (bibliographic databases, Cobiss, PubMed, SpringerLink). Results: When assessing the community care needs of older people, respondents emphasized the most important need for belonging, which includes love, empathy and connectedness (M = 4.70, SD = 0.61). In terms of the importance of daily living services in elderly care, help with meals was the most important (M = 4.71, SD = 0.52). In the assessment of basic health services at the primary level in elderly care, ensuring emergency medical care was most important (M = 4.84, SD = 0.37). In terms of specialized health services, support in the prevention and relief of pain was most important (M = 4.80, SD = 0.40). Regarding the importance of mental or psychological services at the primary level, emotional support was most emphasized (M = 4.65, SD = 0.54). In terms of knowledge or skills in caring for the elderly, managing chronic illness was most important (M = 4.61, SD = 0.53). Discussion: The study showed that there are different needs in caring for the elderly in the local community. Participants emphasized the importance of older people's need for belonging, which includes love, empathy and connectedness, the need for security, which includes planning and prevention, and biological and psychosocial needs, which include mobility, rest, involvement in activities, healthy eating and comfort. Respondents indicated that the most important daily living services for elderly care in the local community include assistance with eating, washing, dressing, personal hygiene, transportation and household services. Respondents emphasized the great importance of basic health services at the primary level, especially ensuring emergency medical services, assistance in taking medication safely and regular medical check-ups. In terms of specialized healthcare services, they confirmed the importance of help with pain prevention and relief, palliative care, and help with rehabilitation and the use of rehabilitation aids. In terms of spiritual or psychological services, respondents particularly emphasized emotional support, connection to community, family and users, care in the community, which includes a range of services that enable older people with disabilities to live in the community, and socializing at home, which includes talking, reading the newspaper, and formal and informal groups. In terms of elder care knowledge and skills, respondents most often emphasized the importance of managing chronic illness, providing comprehensive care to older people, ensuring safety in the environment (including falls, infections, malnutrition, abuse and violence), and staying healthy and eating right.
