Hidroterapija združuje elemente razvojno-nevrološke in senzorno-integracijske obravnave.

Abstract:Theoretical Framework: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by restricted social interactions, communication difficulties, and repetitive behavioral patterns. Due to the high sensory integration therapy needs of children with ASD and positive evidence of effectiveness from various approaches, we investigated the impact of hydrotherapy on these children. Hydrotherapy combines elements of both neurodevelopmental and sensory integration approaches. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted, encompassing 6 articles obtained from different databases: Google Scholar, PubMed, PEDro, DOAJ, Cobiss, Web of Science, and Scopus. A descriptive method with a systematic literature review was employed. The search included research and scientific articles in English and Slovenian, published between 2018 and 2023. The search keywords were "physiotherapy," "autism," "child," and "hydrotherapy" in Slovenian, and "physiotherapy," "autism," "child," and "hydrotherapy" in English. Results: Using the PRISMA diagram, a data collection process was performed, involving the analysis of 6 articles. These articles were classified based on their content regarding the effectiveness of hydrotherapy for children with ASD. Our aim was to explore the impacts of hydrotherapy and compare water-based activities with other land-based activities, while also identifying factors influenced by hydrotherapy. Discussion: The analysis of the studies demonstrated that hydrotherapy has a positive impact on children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Improvement in motor functions, cognitive abilities, emotional state, and a reduction in stereotypical behavior were observed. These findings significantly contribute to enhancing the overall quality of life for children with ASD.
