Abstract:Theoretical point: The organization of healthcare services in homes for the elderly is not adequately regulated, either abroad or in Slovenia, in a way that would enable physiotherapists to provide high-quality and comprehensive physiotherapy treatment. Goal: The objective is to analyze relevant literature, review studies on institutional care for older people and physiotherapists' satisfaction with the standards for treating older people in such settings, present institutional care in the Municipality of Maribor, and evaluate factors affecting physiotherapists' satisfaction. Method: A qualitative method was conducted in the form of individual interviews based on a semi-structured questionnaire with five open-ended questions. The study included seven physiotherapists employed in four nursing homes in the Municipality of Maribor. Collected data were analyzed for relevance using the analysis method and then described and presented using the descriptive method. Results: The interviewees believe the outdated standards offer no advantages or disadvantages. They expressed general dissatisfaction with the existing standards, emphasizing that the number of physiotherapists is insufficient to ensure quality physiotherapy treatment in nursing homes. They also reported a lack of necessary time for their work, daily challenges, high pressures, and overburdened workloads. Discussion: Based on the collected data on physiotherapists' satisfaction with the standards for elderly care in nursing homes in the Municipality of Maribor, the study found that physiotherapists are dissatisfied with the standards and overburdened in their work.
