V svoji magistrski nalogi smo zato želeli raziskati, kako svetovalci in terapevti v praksi združujejo kognitivno vedenjske pristope z igralno terapijo.

Abstract:The profession of psychosocial counselor is relatively new in Slovenia, with most professionals primarily working in adult counseling. When a counselor decides to work with children and adolescents, specific challenges arise, as practitioners must take into account the developmental characteristics of younger populations and their unique needs. In our master’s thesis, we sought to investigate how counselors and therapists combine cognitive-behavioral approaches with play therapy in practice. The latter encompasses a broad range of techniques and variations (psychodynamic, child-centered, filial, etc.) and has been shown to support emotional and social development. The theoretical part presents the fundamentals of counseling, emphasizes key considerations when working with children and adolescents, and examines the role of the counselor, who may employ both cognitive-behavioral and creative methods. Special attention is given to an overview of play therapy and to exploring how its principles can be effectively transferred to psychosocial counseling. The empirical section defines the research problem along with the aims and objectives of the study, while also describing the methods and instruments used. We conducted qualitative interviews with both psychosocial counselors and different types of therapists, allowing for a broader perspective. The results indicate that play therapy and psychosocial counseling are complementary, as a combined approach facilitates understanding of children’s behavior and provides stronger emotional support. At the same time, the findings underscore the importance of practitioner competence, ongoing professional development, and suitable work conditions. Among the greatest challenges are the lack of supervision and insufficient interprofessional collaboration, which hinder the optimal integration of both approaches.
