Abstract:Theoretical background: Physiotherapy is a profession that involves daily contact with people, which can cause physical and psychological burden. Long term exposure to stress factors can negatively affect the health of physiotherapists and their work and can also lead to burnout. The purpose of the thesis is to investigate the impact of stress on physiothera pists, the factors that cause stress and burnout, and the signs of stress and burnout that physiotherapists most often experience. Methods: A quantitative research methodology was used. The research was conducted with a questionnaire distributed among ran domly selected physiotherapists. The research was anonymous and 70 respondents from various health institutions participated voluntarily. Results: Physiotherapists mostly feel moderate stress at work. They believe that the stress affects the efficiency o f work, as 31.1 % of respondents perform their work partially effectively due to stress, and 28.6 % perform their work less effectively . The main risk factor for stress is the number of patients treated in one day (professional overload). The most common r isk factor for burnout is excessive workload. Physical activity is the most common way to cope with stress, while a change of environment is the most common way to cope with burnout. When stressed, respondents most often feel tired, and when burned out, th ey experience psychophysical exhaustion. Discussion: We found out that physiotherapy is a profession that is often exposed to stress. Survey participants believe that improving the work environment would reduce stress. We found out that physiotherapists m ost often feel tired when stressed. A small proportion of respondents have already experienced burnout, and the majority of respondents have already experienced signs of burnout.
