Abstract:Introduction: Stroke is a serious medical condition that occurs due to a sudden interruption of blood flow in the brain. As a result, there is a lack of oxygen and nutrients, which leads to the rapid death of brain cells. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the effectiveness of home-based physiotherapy in patients who have suffered a stroke. The aim was also to present the latest findings in this field. Methods: Literature was obtained from various online databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and PEDro. Articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The article selection process was presented using a PRISMA diagram, and the results were displayed in tables. Results: The review of the articles shows positive effects of home-based physiotherapy in patients after a stroke. Some techniques prove to be more effective than others. Discussion and Conclusion: Research on home-based physiotherapy in patients after a stroke is rare but important. Home-based physiotherapy can be more easily adapted to the needs of the patient and their family members. The effectiveness of home-based physiotherapy is attributed to factors such as the familiar home environment and the involvement of family members. The applied methods and techniques included passive exercises, learning active exercises and functional training, respiratory physiotherapy and pain-relief therapy, therapist-supervised mobility exercises, upper and lower limb mobility exercises, the Bobath technique, exercises based on motor relearning principles, and task-oriented approaches. Emphasis is placed on manual, verbal, and visual guidance to stimulate brain neuroplasticity. Passive techniques are being phased out, while modern technology is increasingly being integrated into home rehabilitation.
