Abstract:Diplomsko delo obravnava varstvo in zaščito človekovih pravic starejših odraslih, ki postajajo v sodobni družbi vse pomembnejše zaradi izrazitih demografskih sprememb, daljšanja življenjske dobe in hitro starajočega se prebivalstva. Čeprav so človekove pravice univerzalne ter zakonsko opredeljene v številnih mednarodnih konvencijah in nacionalnih pravnih okvirih, so pravice starejših odraslih še vedno pogosto spregledane, pomanjkljivo raziskane in v praksi nezadostno uresničene.

Abstract:The thesis addresses the protection and safeguarding of the human rights of older adults, which are becoming increasingly important in modern societies due to pronounced demographic changes, longer life expectancy, and the rapid ageing of the population. Although human rights are considered universal and are legally defined through numerous international conventions and national legislative frameworks, the rights of older adults remain too often overlooked, insufficiently explored in academic discourse, and inadequately protected in practice. The research focuses on how the rights of older adults are articulated in major international legal instruments, what the principal challenges are in their realization, and which institutional and legal mechanisms of protection are currently available in Slovenia. The theoretical part of the thesis is based on an analysis of scientific, professional, and legislative literature, while the empirical part comprises a systematic review of existing studies conducted in line with the PRISMA protocol, complemented by qualitative content analysis. The main aim of the study is to provide a comprehensive and in-depth insight into the present state of human rights of older adults, to identify existing shortcomings, and to contribute to improved understanding, greater awareness, and the development of more effective strategies for their long-term protection.
