Abstract:Magistrsko delo obravnava proces digitalne transformacije spletnega portala Svet24 ter analizira njen vpliv na uredniške, vsebinske, tehnološke in poslovne dimenzije delovanja medija. Poleg analize internih dokumentov in podatkov o obiskanosti portala so bili izvedeni polstrukturirani intervjuji z odgovorno urednico, vodstvom projektne ekipe ter uredniki lokalnih redakcij.

Title:Transformation of a Media Organization: the Case of Svet24
Abstract:This master’s thesis examines the process of digital transformation of the online news portal Svet24 and analyzes its impact on editorial practices, content strategies, technological infrastructure, and the business dimension of the media. The topic is relevant, as Slovenian media face rapid technological change and shifting audience habits. The research aimed to document the portal’s redesign, identify its strategic drivers, and assess the transformation’s effects. The study was designed as a case study combining qualitative and quantitative methods. In addition to the analysis of internal documents and audience metrics, semi-structured interviews were conducted with the editor-in-chief, project management representatives, and editors of local newsrooms. Data triangulation allowed for the verification of findings and provided a more nuanced insight into the consequences of the transformation. The key findings indicate that the redesign enabled technological modernization, integration of editorial workflows, and the development of a digital mindset in everyday journalistic work. The portal expanded its content offering and shifted from a predominantly tabloid orientation toward a more comprehensive news medium. The transformation positively affected audience metrics while also laying the groundwork for the future development of paid content. Challenges remain in the areas of continuous staff training, motivation of local journalists, and the gradual introduction of new formats, particularly video. The study provides practical guidelines for other media organizations undertaking digital transformation and contributes to the academic understanding of media integration and content convergence in the Slovenian context. The case of Svet24 demonstrates that successful digital transformation requires a combination of technological advancement, strategic leadership, and a shift in editorial culture.
