Abstract:Protocol is a special concept in international and interpersonal relations also. This field is despite of this still quite unsearched, particularly from the view of visits of prime ministers and the tendency to conduct strategic partnerships between countries. We gave special attention to the presentation of a set of rules, applying in the protocol, which need to be respected in the execution of protocolary visits. At the same time, we also tried to present differences in the execution of formal visits of the prime minister in Slovenia and in another country. Along with the presentation of the protocol and particularly the bilateral diplomacy, the Master's thesis also provides a presentation of the importance of conducting strategic partnerships between countries. These represent an important political leverage for strengthening and deepening of bilateral relations, which enable the formation of new matrixes of operating and cooperation. The thesis also presents the involvement of the economic delegation intothe visit of the prime minister, which makes the formal visit more interesting for the economy and politics, and the representatives of the delegation gain greater possibility of conducting businesses in the future. In the empirical part of the thesis, wecompared two formal visits of prime ministers and presented the views of organization of such visits and the tendency of visits, when speaking about meetings of countries with existing strategic partnerships. The key contribution of the thesis to science and profession is the fact that we have found that strategic partnerships make formal visits more concrete and operative and substantially stronger.
