Abstract:Krožno gospodarstvo ločuje gospodarsko rast od rabe virov in vpliva na okolje. Potrebne so sistemske spremembe. Zaradi navedenih dejstev smo se v diplomski nalogi odločili raziskovati krožno gospodarstvo in njegove prednosti, priložnosti, izzive in ovire. Rezultate smo pridobili s primerjavo sekundarnih in primarnih virov, katere smo pridobili s kvalitativno raziskovalno metodo polstrukturiranih intervjujev s predstavniki Ministrstva za gospodarski razvoj in turizem, SRIP – krožno gospodarstvo in Gospodarske zbornice Slovenije.

Title:Opportunities, challenges and necessary changes for the transition to the circular economy in Slovenia : diploma thesis
Abstract:The circular economy separates economic growth from resource use and environmental impact. The linear economy is an unsustainable form of business, consumption and production and represents 91.6% of the world economy. The circular economy, which represents 8.4% of the world economy is a systemic shift from linear economic practices, creates new business and economic opportunities and provides environmental and social benefits. The Covid-19 pandemic exposed many of the shortcomings of society as a whole. Systemic changes are needed. Due to the above facts, we decided to research the circular economy and its advantages, opportunities, challenges and obstacles in our diploma thesis. The results were achieved by comparing secondary and primary sources, which were obtained by a qualitative research method of semi-structured interviews with representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism, SRIP - Circular Economy and the Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia. The analysis revealed that the main advantages and opportunities of the circular economy are financial benefits, conservation of natural resources, reduction of negative environmental impacts, more innovative business ideas, waste prevention, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and better quality of life. Through analysis we found out that a key obstacle, shortcoming and challenge is inter-sectoral cooperation between the business sector, governments, research and academic institutions, and civil society and non-governmental organizations. The research also showed that for a more successful transition to a circular economy, we should improve inter-sectoral cooperation and increase investment in research and development, which would facilitate the transition to a circular economy through their innovations. At the same time, there is a need to raise consumer awareness so that they could more often use products and services that are the result of sustainable and circular business and production processes.
