Abstract:The topic of sustainable diplomacy discussed in this dissertation is based on a personal understanding of the need for international relations management and three conflicting interest solving in the un-institutionalized cross-border destination with economic and ecological reality as well as cultural tradition in the prospect of the sustainable development of destination and its tourism. Sociological study of diplomacy through the international relations management function has led us to the hypothetically established relationship expectations between the diplomacy system and the destination system (H1) as well as cooperative relations between diplomatic organization and destination management (H2). Dissertation fills the gap between sustainable diplomacy science and already existing diplomatic practice, since it offers the attempt to formulate a definition and conception of sustainable diplomacy, moreover it offers a new, analytic model to analyze the part and role of diplomacy in strategic development management of the destination, destination relations management and fulfilling the sustainable development global goals. The concept of the sustainable diplomacy is generated based on the synthesis of the three complex concepts (diplomacy, destination and sustainable development), but it also takes into account basic elements of the economic, cultural, environmental, public, multi-track and multilateral diplomacy concepts. This thesis is divided to theoretical and empirical part, where all findings are tested on the case of cross-border destination of the regions of the four countries (Slovenia, Austria, Hungary and Croatia) and compared to the case of the destination Šibenik-Knin county in the Republic of Croatia.
