Title:PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF PREGNANCY RELATED DIASTASIS RECTI BY PHYSIOTHERAPEUTIC TREATMENT
Abstract:Pregnancy is a very important period in a life of a woman, in which they experience many physiological changes, including hormonal ones. It is possible that abdominal muscles, especially the rectus abdominal muscle, therefore weaken and separate. Different authors identify different risk factors for this condition: multiparity, second and following pregnancies, strong or weak abdominal musles, inappropriate and/or too challenging exercises for abdominal muscles, congenital weakness of connective tissue, higher age of pregnant women, heavier baby, increades weight gain during pregnancy, caesarean section and other. Different authors report also about different consequences for women: lumbar pain, urinary incontinence, improper posture, abdominal hernia, difficulties with pushing at childbirth, breathing, coughing, excretion and body bending, unsightly appearance because of stretched, furrowed and drooping skin and other. Physical exercise in the antenatal period and during pregnancy may decrease the risk of getting pregnancy-related distasis recti (PRDR), and sometimes it can heal spontaneously anfer childbirth. Experts suggest raising awareness about PRDR among women as well as health and sports professionals interacting with them. Accorgind to the experts, PRDR should be recognized and treated soon enough, the first treatment method being physioterapy. The research on the effectivenes of treatment methods still remais inadequate, and experts’ opinions about the matter are divided. Abdominal and core muscles exercises are the most widely used, but experts study other methods as well.
