Abstract:

Abstract:
Letter of credit or L/C is a method of payment, which is considered to be the safest and is most common used in international trade. In bank language letter of credit is a term, when bank orders to a specific person or other institution that in the case of fulfilment of the L/C conditions, the payment of the pre-arranged amount to a third person. When L/C is used, the issuing bank irreversibly commits to pay salesman the pre-arranged amount in time. The salesman has to submit correctly and in time all the documents that are listed in L/C as terms. L/C conditions are defined by the applicant. In summary, when L/C is used timeliness and certainty of the payment besides quantity and quality of the goods are ensured. Libya is considered to be risky and overall problematic country for international companies that have the interest to export and being paid in accordance with transaction agreement. For these reasons L/C seems to be the most suitable payment source that protects the risks of investors. The terms for L/C when trading in Libya is determined by Libyan banks.
