Abstract:

Title:
The role of physiotherapist in the treatment of multiple sclerosis patients
Abstract:
Introduction and purpose: Physiotherapy plays an important role in the treatment of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The main task of the physiotherapist is to help the patient achieve optimal functional independence, safety, and improved quality of life. Methods: We employed an online survey technique, using a survey questionnaire as our instrument. The research included 257 multiple sclerosis patients. Results: Physiotherapy treatment is regularly attended by 30 (23%) respondents with multiple sclerosis. During their rehabilitation, 113 (86%) respondents familiarized themselves with relevant and important exercises, but only 47 (36%) perform them at home. Respondents with multiple sclerosis received the largest amount of information (48%) on how to improve the quality of their life with exercise from a physiotherapist. The majority of respondents (98%) agree that an effective exercise home-based programme is necessary to achieve long-term goals. Usability: This diploma thesis is intended for those who would like to inform themselves about the role of a physiotherapist in the treatment of patients with multiple sclerosis. Limitations: Incompletely filled in questionnaires limited us in conducting a more extensive research, 125 questionnaires were excluded.
