Abstract:Slovenski katoliški tednik Družina deluje že več kot 72 let. (sv. Maksimiljan Kolbe) (Kosloski 2021)

Title:SEVEN DECADES OF DRUŽINA, A SLOVENIAN CATHOLIC NEWSPAPER
Abstract:The Slovenian Catholic weekly Družina has been running for more than 72 years. Over seven decades, it has faced and successfully overcome various obstacles. In my diplomatic assignment, I have walked through the history and impact of Družina on Slovenian society from 1952 to the present day. The very first issue of the weekly was published during the hard regime and gradually became a symbol of freedom of speech and democracy in the 1960s and 1970s. Above all, it has focused and continues to focus on issues from a Christian perspective, following the changes taking place in society and in families. Through the decades I focus on the political influence on the content and editorial policy of the Family, how the weekly has survived and developed under censorship, persecution and administrative restrictions. I also examine th e importance of Družina in the Slovenian Catholic press and the impact of politics on it. The thesis includes an analysis of articles, interviews with former editors, and a comparison of different periods in order to clarify how Družina has remained a bulletin of Christian hope and meaning in different time periods and how it has faced the challenges of social dynamics. The aim is to answer the research question: in which decade was Družina most under pressure from the political regime? Today, Družina also operates a web portal and deals with multimedia content. St Maximilian Kolbe was already convinced that the modern media have enormous potential for communicating the Gospel message. In 1938, when St Maximilian Kolbe began to build a radio station, he told his confreres: Remember, the point of all our efforts is to spread the faith through the written word, the spoken word, and perhaps one day through the making of films (St Maximilian Kolbe).
