Title:HEALTH CARE TREATMENT OF THE PATIENTS WITH MENTAL DISORDER AT PRIMARY CARE LEVEL
Abstract:Background: The role of the primary health care nurses in mental health is increasingly recognized as crucial in addressing the increasing prevalence of mental health problems in the community. The involvement of nurses in these settings is essential for effective care delivery, accessibility, personalized approach and reduction of waiting times. Method: A quantitative method was used. The sample included primary care nurses in mental health (n = 87). A structured questionnaire was used, which was based on a literature review. The survey was conducted in September 2024. Results: On average, nurses rate the nursing care of patients with mental disorders at the primary level of health care as good or very good. The survey identified strengths (organizational factors, personal approach and accessibility) and weaknesses (organizational factors, attitudes of care providers towards the patient and vice versa, staffing and environmental factors) related to the quality of care provided to patients with mental disorders at the primary level of healthcare. Discussion: The work of primary health care nurses is complex and multifaceted. They act as coordinators of the multidisciplinary team, as mental health and psychiatric specialists, and as the patient's biggest confidant. In the future, it will be necessary to explore the measures that are needed to improve the delivery of primary nursing care.
