Vsaka ledvica je velika približno 12 cm in tehta okrog 150 g. Glavne naloge ledvice so uravnavanje elektrolitov, uravnavanje kislinsko-baznega ravnovesja, izločanje presnovnih proizvodov ter tvorba in izločanje hormonov. Vse podatke smo tematsko analizirali. Rezultati: Ugotovili smo, da imajo večinoma vsi podobne izkušnje v komunikaciji z medicinskimi sestrami in informiranostjo o samem poteku dializnega zdravljenja. Intervjuvanci so podali ustrezne odgovore.

Title:COMMUNICATION WIHTH DIALYSIS PATIENTS: CHELLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF CARE
Abstract:Theoretical Background: The kidneys are located retroperitoneally, on either side of the spine. Each kidney is approximately 12 cm in size and weighs around 150 grams. The primary functions of the kidneys include regulating electrolytes, maintaining acid-base balance, excreting metabolic waste products, and producing and secreting hormones. Due to the ageing population, the number of kidney diseases is increasing. Chronic kidney disease can be treated in three ways: hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplantation. Patients undergoing hemodialysis are dependent on the dialysis machine and healthcare staff. Effective communication between patients and healthcare providers is a fundamental aspect of healthcare. This study aims to examine the quality and challenges of communication between dialysis patients and healthcare personnel and identify opportunities to improve communication practices that would contribute to better care and greater patient satisfaction. Methods: We employed a qualitative research approach. Based on a preliminary review of domestic and international professional and scientific literature, we developed questions for a semi-structured in-depth interview. Ethical research principles were observed at all stages. All data were analysed thematically. Twelve individuals undergoing hemodialysis at a healthcare facility participated in the study. Results: We found that most participants had similar experiences regarding communication with nurses and being informed about the dialysis treatment process. The interviewees provided relevant and appropriate responses. The thesis offers valuable insight into the experience of communication between dialysis patients and healthcare personnel, particularly nurses. Discussion: The identified factors of effective communication may serve as a basis for developing guidelines to improve the communication skills of healthcare professionals. Based on patients’ suggestions for improvements, healthcare institutions can develop concrete measures to enhance the quality of healthcare and patient satisfaction.
