Title:Vloga socialnega gerontologa v dolgotrajni oskrbi : magistrsko delo študijskega programa druge bolonjske stopnje Socialna gerontologija

Abstract:Staranje prebivalstva se v zadnjem času povečuje in to nadaljevanje lahko pričakujemo tudi v naslednjem stoletju. V svetu se je veda gerontologija začela razvijati že v začetku 20. stoletja, v Sloveniji pa je ta termin prišel v uporabo šele 60 let kasneje. Znotraj te vede se je izoblikovalo več poddisciplin, med katere spada socialna gerontologija, ki proučuje proces staranja in išče načine za izboljšanje staranja. V ZDA in Nemčiji imajo že leta razvite različne gerontološke izobraževalne programe, in sicer po koncu izobraževanja gerontologi s svojimi kompetencami zasedajo različna področja dela, saj se zavedajo, da so nepogrešljiv kader na vseh področjih, ki zadevajo naraščajoče starejše prebivalstvo. V Sloveniji imamo eno fakulteto, ki izobražuje socialne gerontologe, prav tako je pomembna vloga socialne gerontologije izpostavljena v Zakonu o dolgotrajni oskrbi. V empiričnem delu so v raziskavo vključeni intervjuji z vodilnimi v organizacijah, kot so domovi za starejše občane, centri za socialno delo, oskrba na domu, splošne bolnišnice in tudi izobraženi socialni gerontologi, ki so zaposleni v socialnem varstvu. Ugotovljeno je bilo, da imamo pripravljen kompetenten kader, ki je izobražen za delo s starejšimi odraslimi in lahko opravlja izredno velik nabor del in nalog. Prav tako je bilo ugotovljeno, da se potrebe po kompetencah, ki naj bi jih imel socialni gerontolog, razlikujejo med različnimi organizacijami. Pridobljeni podatki v raziskovalni nalogi jasno izkazujejo potrebe po implementiranju socialnih gerontologov v delovne procese, prav tako jasno prikazujejo, v katero smer se naj fakulteta, ki edina izobražuje socialne gerontologe, usmeri pri razvijanju študijskega programa Socialne gerontologije.

Abstract:The population has been aging rapidly in recent years, and this trend is expected to continue into the next century. While the science of gerontology began to develop in the early 20th century, the term only emerged in Slovenia 60 years later. Several sub-disciplines have emerged within this science, including social gerontology. Social gerontology studies how old age is experienced and how it can be improved. In the USA and Germany, various gerontological education programs have been developed over the years. Upon education, gerontologists find employment in diverse fields, recognising their indispensable role in addressing the needs of the growing elderly population. In Slovenia, there is currently one faculty that educates social gerontologists. This field has a crucial role in the implementation of the Long-Term Care Act. To obtain the necessary empirical data for the master’s thesis, we conducted interviews with leaders in various organizations, including homes for the elderly, social work centres, hospitals, and home care services. Furthermore, we interviewed educated social gerontologists working in social care. We found that the staff is well-trained to work with older adults and can perform a wide range of tasks. Moreover, we found that the specific competencies required of social gerontologist varied across different organizations. The research data clearly demonstrates the need for social gerontologists in various work settings and provides guidance for the faculty in developing the Social Gerontology study program.
