Title:The use of Social Media Among Young Adults: The Importance of Monitoring Mental Health Content in Everyday Life
Abstract:The master's thesis investigates, on one hand, the role and habits of young adults in using online social networks and the influence of these networks on the perception and awareness of mental health. Technological advancements and digital platforms are becoming an integral part of everyday life, influencing our social behaviors and our perception of ourselves and our surroundings. The work focuses on the importance of connectivity in mental health, while also addressing the risks associated with false information, stigma, and filter bubbles created by algorithms on social networks. The thesis includes a theoretical part, where we discuss the development of technology, new media, social media, online social networks, and their functionality and impact on users. Furthermore, this part also serves as a foundation for understanding content related to mental health and the role of social networks in spreading information. The empirical part of the thesis first focuses on the habits of young adults in using online social networks and attempts to assign practical value, later turning to the monitoring of content related to mental health and understanding what these contents bring to their lives. The main findings suggest mass and frequent use of online social networks and diverse practical value, while also demonstrating the significant role of social networks in spreading information about mental health and showing the noticeable effects of monitoring content related to mental health in the everyday lives of young adults.
