Abstract:Uvod: Ozaveščenost staršev o pojavu vročine pri dojenčku in malčku vpliva na njen potek in izid. Starši dojenčku in malčku z vročino ponudijo več tekočine in prepoznajo znake dehidracije.

Abstract:Introduction: Parental awareness regarding fever in infant and toddler influences its course and outcome. Their poor awareness on fever management delays treatment of the primary illness. Child's dehydration can be prevented in the home environment. Parents influence the outcome of febrile convulsions by taking the right actions. Healthcare professionals play an important role in adressing fever. Research Methodology: The research is based on a quantitative research method. The questionnaire was designed to explore parental awareness about fever in infants and toddlers. The survey was conducted via the online tool 1KA. Results: 100 randomly selected parents with one or more children under 3 years of age participated in the survey. Parents offer more fluids to their child with fever and recognise the signs of dehydration. More than half of all parents measure their child's fever axillary. Most parents don't bring fever down too quickly. More than half of the parents with one infant and toddler do not reduce fever on the basis of the child's discomfort. The second hypothesis was confirmed, as 90 % parents fear when fever occurs. The first one was partially confirmed, as the results don't suggest that parents with more than one child are statistically more aware of fever than parents with one infant or toddler. Discussion: We believe that more attention should be paid to raising awareness among parents at primary health care level. Parents should seek help and advice from paediatricians and paediatric nurses.
