Metode: Pri pregledu literature smo uporabili več metod preučevanja, in sicer kvalitativni raziskovalni pristop, deskriptivno raziskovalno metodo dela in klasifikacijsko metodo.

Abstract:Theoretical background: For more than a decade, Slovenia has had a larger proportion of people aged over 65 than those under 15, reflecting the demographic trend of population ageing. Most economically developed European countries are experiencing a similar process. Despite a well-developed healthcare system, older adults are frequently confronted with various health conditions. Physiotherapy can play an important role in this context, as its approach to working with older adults contributes to the maintenance, development, or restoration of optimal movement and functional abilities, both at the preventive and curative levels. To standardize the care of older adults, Slovenia adopted the Long-Term Care Act, which took effect in 2023 and is scheduled for full implementation on July 1, 2025. Purpose: This thesis aimed to examine, based on professional and scientific literature, the effectiveness of physiotherapy in the long-term care of older adults. Methods: A literature review was conducted using several research methods, including a qualitative research approach, a descriptive research method, and a classification method. Scientific articles were retrieved from PubMed, ScienceDirect, COBISS, PEDro, and Google Scholar. Only articles with a PEDro score of 6 or higher were included in the analysis. Results: After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, seven studies were analyzed. The findings indicate that the most frequently applied physiotherapy approaches in long-term care for older adults include strength and balance training, pain management, mobility assistance, fall prevention, and a multidisciplinary approach. Structured and supervised exercise programs proved to be particularly effective, as they significantly reduce the incidence of falls and improve physical performance in older adults.
