Abstract:Uvod: Magistrsko delo obravnava vpliv socialne izolacije na zdravje starejših odraslih. Analizirali smo povezanost pogostosti in kakovosti socialnih stikov, oblik socialne podpore in demografskih dejavnikov (spol, starost, izobrazba, dohodek) s samooceno zdravstvenega stanja starejših odraslih. Razprava in zaključek: Rezultati potrjujejo, da socialna izolacija pomembno vpliva na zdravje starejših odraslih. Poudarjajo pomen krepitve socialnih mrež, dostopnosti podpornih programov in spodbujanja aktivnega staranja.

Abstract:Introduction: The master's thesis examines the impact of social isolation on the health of older adults. In contemporary society, where life expectancy is increasing and family structures are changing, the number of older adults living alone and facing limited social contacts is rising. Social isolation emerges as an important risk factor, as it affects physical, mental, and social health and increases the prevalence of chronic diseases. Methods: The study is based on a quantitative analysis of data from the international SHARE, conducted in Slovenia. We analyzed the relationship between the frequency and quality of social contacts, types of social support, and demographic factors (gender, age, education, income) with self-rated health among older adults. Results: Based on the results, we found that social isolation is associated with poorer self-rated health and a higher prevalence of chronic diseases. Older adults living alone more frequently report poorer health compared to those living with others. Membership in associations and organizations proved to be a protective factor, as it promotes greater social inclusion and improved well-being. Demographic factors significantly contribute to the risk of social isolation, with lower education and lower income being particularly highlighted. Discussion and Conclusion: The results confirm that social isolation significantly affects the health of older adults. They highlight the importance of strengthening social networks, ensuring access to support programs, and promoting active aging. This master’s thesis provides a basis for the development of measures and policies aimed at reducing the risk of social isolation and improving the health and overall quality of life of older adults in Slovenia.
