Abstract:Potrošništvo skozi čas narašča, kar je odraz vse večjega števila prebivalcev na planetu in vpliva hitre mode. Ugotovili smo, da so anketirani potrošniki v Sloveniji slabo seznanjeni s problematiko tekstilnih odpadkov, vendar so naklonjeni trajnostnemu ravnanju s tekstilnimi izdelki, ko ti niso več uporabni.

Title:CONSUMER AWARENESS IN SLOVENIA ABOUT THE PROBLEM OF TEXTILE WASTE AND THE POSSIBILITIES OF ITS REUSE AND RECYCLING
Abstract:Consumerism has been steadily increasing over time, reflecting both global population growth and the rise of fast fashion. Textile products, such as clothing and technical textiles, are indispensable in everyday life, with clothing being required on a daily basis. However, fast fashion has transformed clothing into a style-driven commodity, leading consumers to spend more on apparel than is necessary for everyday living. Excessive consumption consequently generates large amounts of textile waste. The textile industry significantly pollutes the environment and depletes natural resources in the process of manufacturing textile products. To mitigate its environmental impact, the industry is compelled to adopt sustainable solutions, including recycling and reuse. Consumers themselves must also embrace more sustainable behavior. The main objective of this master’s thesis is to examine consumer awareness in Slovenia regarding textile waste and the possibilities for its reuse and recycling. The findings indicate that surveyed consumers are poorly informed about textile waste; nevertheless, they show a willingness to engage in sustainable practices once textile products are no longer usable. A key role in reducing textile waste and enhancing consumer awareness is played by the Union’s Strategy adopted by the European Parliament, which sets specific objectives for waste reduction and circular use of textiles. Ultimately, consumer sustainability orientation, combined with environmental legislation, will contribute most to the green transition. Preserving our planet is vital to mitigating climate change, which is already having a significant impact on the lives of humans and other living beings.
