Abstract:Večkulturnost v poslovnem svetu danes predstavlja veliko prednost na mednarodni ravni, zato večkulturne projektne ekipe niso novost. S pomočjo raziskave bomo pridobili poglobljeno razumevanje pomena zaposlovanja sodelavcev z različnim kulturnim ozadjem, z različnimi vrednotami in predvsem različnim načinom dela.

Title:Understanding the Challenges, Opportunities and the Influence of Project Leader on Multicultural Project Teams in International Companies
Abstract:Multiculturalism in today’s business world represents a significant advantage at an international level. Therefore, multicultural project teams are no longer a novelty. Digitalisation and international cooperation have led companies to increasingly employ individuals from different countries and cultural backgrounds. Teams consisting of individuals with diverse cultural backgrounds can offer a broader perspective and respond more quickly to change. The diversity of knowledge, experience and viewpoints fosters innovation and enables more comprehensive solutions to complex problems. However, this diversity can also present challenges, such as differences in communication styles, social norms and cultural values, which may lead to misunderstandings and a negative team atmosphere. A key figure in a multicultural project team is the leader, who must understand the strengths and needs of other team members, encourage cooperation, address culturally conditioned problems and overcome their own cultural biases. The research presented in this master’s thesis is aimed at understanding the challenges and benefits of multicultural teams, as well as the role and importance of their leaders. It focuses on analysing the experiences of individuals working in multicultural project groups and on the ways in which they deal with diversity in practice. Through this research, a deeper understanding is gained of the importance of employing colleagues from different cultural backgrounds, with different values and, above all, different working styles. The key to a successful multicultural project team lies in recognising that diversity benefits all employees by creating a safe, fair and innovative environment in which everyone has access to the same opportunities and challenges. Such an environment encourages employees’ personal and professional development and increases their motivation and commitment to the organisation. The results of the research showed that the main challenges in managing such teams are dealing with cultural differences and language barriers, ensuring the absence of discriminatory attitudes, strengthening diversity and flexibility, and optimally developing team members. Awareness of these aspects enables leaders to build a strong team grounded in respect for different values and cultural backgrounds and capable of addressing challenges creatively and productively within defined timelines.
