Abstract:Teoretična izhodišča: Downov sindrom je najpogostejša prirojena kromosomska motnja. Pogosto imajo otroci z Downovim sindormom težave s procesom senzorne integracije. Uporabili smo kvalitativni pristop raziskovanja. Literaturo smo raziskovali in analizirali s pomočjo metode deskripcije, kompilacije, analiziranja in komparativne metode.

Abstract:Theoretical background: Down syndrome is the most common congenital chromosomal disorder. Children with Down syndrome often have problems with the process of sensory integration. Sensory integration disorders are associated with motor development disorders, which are often present in children with Down syndrome. The purpose of the diploma thesis was to investigate the meaning of sensory integration and determine its impact on the motor development of children with Down syndrome, as well as the importance of using the concept of sensory integration in the developmental neurological treatment of these children, using a review of professional literature. Work methods: When writing the thesis, we used several research techniques. We used a qualitative research approach. We researched and analyzed the literature using the description, compilation, comparative and analysis methods. After reviewing the research, we analyzed 7 studies according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, which we presented in a table according to the PRIZMA diagram model. We analyzed the studies and classified them in a table of categories and codes, according to the research questions. Results: The results showed positive results in the inclusion of sensory integration in developmental neurophysiotherapy and the improvement of fine and gross motor skills. We found that the use of SI therapy together with physiotherapy treatment significantly improves the development of gross and fine motor skills in children with Down syndrome. We also found through research analyses that the greatest problems are caused by the proprioceptive, tactile and vestibular sensory systems, which can cause disturbances in sensory processing, which in turn affects the child's development. Discussion: By including SI therapy in the physiotherapy treatment of children with Down syndrome, better processing of perceived sensory information is promoted, which has a positive impact on the development of fine and gross motor skills and the overall development of the child.
