Abstract:Magistrska naloga obravnava možnosti in izzive uvajanja umetne inteligence v slovenski zdravstveni sistem.

Title:Integration of Artificial Intelligence into the Slovenian Healthcare System
Abstract:This master’s thesis examines the opportunities and challenges associated with the implementation of artificial intelligence in the Slovenian healthcare system. In recent years, artificial intelligence has developed rapidly and is increasingly being adopted in the healthcare sector, where it promises greater efficiency, improved work organization, and support for professional decision-making. Nevertheless, its practical implementation is often constrained by infrastructural, legal, ethical, and organizational factors, as well as by users’ reluctance to adopt new technologies. In the Slovenian healthcare context, this field remains relatively underexplored, which makes the topic both timely and relevant from the perspectives of professional practice and healthcare system development. The aim of the thesis was to explore how healthcare professionals in Slovenia perceive artificial intelligence, in which areas they already use it or consider it appropriate for use, and what they identify as the key benefits and challenges of its integration. The empirical part of the study is based on a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods. The quantitative component consisted of an online survey completed by 44 healthcare professionals, while the qualitative component included four semi-structured interviews with individuals from various healthcare-related fields. The results indicate that awareness of artificial intelligence among healthcare professionals is high; however, its actual use in practice remains limited and is primarily focused on supportive and administrative processes. Healthcare professionals generally perceive artificial intelligence as a tool for assistance and workload reduction rather than as a substitute for human judgment. The main advantages identified include time savings, increased efficiency, and improved work organization, while the key challenges involve data protection, ethical concerns, insufficient knowledge, and fears of reduced human contact. The thesis concludes that the successful implementation of artificial intelligence requires a phased approach, an appropriate legal and ethical framework, and systematic education and active involvement of healthcare professionals in the implementation process.
