Medicinska sestra uporablja strokovni pristop, prilagojeno komunikacijo, usmerjanje in pozitivno vzpodbudo. Metode: V diplomskem delu smo uporabili deskriptivno opisno metodo dela. Izvedli smo sistematični pregled znanstvene in strokovne literature v slovenskem in angleškem jeziku. Podatke smo pridobili s pomočjo različnih podatkovnih baz z uporabo ključnih besed in kriterijev.

Abstract:Introduction: The average lifespan is increasing, and with it the risk of developing dementia in old age. The role of nurses in caring for people with dementia is therefore of great importance. Healthcare is focused on improving, maintaining, and restoring activity. Nurses use a professional approach, adapted communication, guidance, and positive encouragement. Methods: In this thesis, we used a descriptive method of work. We conducted a systematic review of scientific and professional literature in Slovenian and English. We obtained data from various databases using keywords and criteria. We used the PRISMA diagram to review the literature. Results: It was found that the role of nurses in the care of people with dementia is poorly defined. Nurses experience considerable uncertainty when caring for people with dementia. However, nurses have a positive attitude toward caring for people with dementia. The role of nurses in caring for people with dementia is very important, as it reduces the burden on family members in helping them become independent in their daily activities. Nurses recognize changes in people with dementia and know how to adapt to different situations. In their work, nurses engage in therapeutic communication characterized by trust, respect, acceptance, self-disclosure, and empathy.
