Keywords:družinske sodnice, stres, sekundarna travma, čuječnost, kognitivno-vedenjska terapija, supervizija.

Title:Between Power and Emotions: Family Court Judges’ Experiences with Workplace Stress
Abstract:This master's thesis examines workplace stress among family court judges in Koper. The topic is significant, as very few studies have been conducted in Slovenia in this field, particularly in relation to mindfulness and stress management among judges. The aim of the research was to explore the experience of stress among family court judges and their coping strategies, with a particular focus on the perception of existing professional support. The study is based on a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews. The results indicate that family court judges are exposed to high levels of emotional and cognitive demands on a daily basis, which may lead to secondary trauma. It was found that judges predominantly rely on their own coping strategies, while systematic professional support in the workplace is not adequately provided. The study highlights the importance of developing comprehensive support mechanisms, such as mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral techniques, and supervision, which could contribute to improved mental well-being of family court judges and enhance the quality of judicial decision-making.
