Abstract:This master's thesis examines the media representation of women leaders in traditionally male-dominated industries, such as engineering, construction, energy, and maritime transport. The topic is highly relevant as media narratives continue to shape public perceptions of professional legitimacy and authority, often reinforcing structural inequalities despite women's increasing entry into executive roles. The research employs a multi-method design, integrating qualitative interviews with women leaders, a quantitative survey, and media content analysis, while contextualising findings through Hofstede’s cultural dimensions and macroeconomic indicators. The main results indicate that while women leaders are increasingly visible, their representation remains deeply gendered. Media content analysis shows a prevalence of "hero/trailblazer" framing, which portrays women as exceptional rather than normalised participants in leadership. Survey and interview data suggest that women in these sectors face higher scrutiny and a "double bind" where they are evaluated by different standards than their male colleagues. The study concludes that the challenge is no longer just a lack of visibility, but the way that visibility is structured through gendered narratives. Recommendations for fairer representation include shifting media focus toward professional expertise and strategic achievements rather than personal identity and symbolic rarity.

Title:Media Representation and Challenges of Women Leaders in Male-Dominated Industries
Istraživanje koristi višemetodski pristup, integrišući kvalitativne intervjue sa ženama lidericama, kvantitativnu anketu i analizu medijskog sadržaja, uz kontekstualizaciju nalaza kroz Hofstedeove kulturne dimenzije i makroekonomske pokazatelje.
