Abstract:Diplomsko delo raziskuje vlogo socialnega gerontologa pri spodbujanju telesne aktivnosti med starejšimi odraslimi.

Abstract:The thesis explores the role of the social gerontologist in promoting physical activity among the elderly. Aging is a natural process that involves various biological, psychological, and social changes, where physical activity is one of the key activities for maintaining health and quality of life for the elderly. To examine the role of the social gerontologist in encouraging physical activity in social care institutions, we aimed to identify the most prominent characteristics of the social gerontologist`s role in raising awareness about the importance of physical activity among residents in elderly care homes, as well as the approaches and techniques that can be used to motivate them. The empirical part of the research was based on a 30-day observation of the work of a social gerontologist in a social care institution. The results showed that the social gerontologist plays a central role in motivating the elderly towards physical activity through the use of positive communication, tailoring exercise programs to individuals, and organizing various group activities. An important finding is that adjusting activities to the health conditions of individuals significantly contributes to the increased involvement of the residents. The social gerontologist used individualized approaches, adapted movements to physical abilities, and encouraged social interactions among the residents, which positively affected their overall well-being and satisfaction.
