Abstract:The thesis focuses on exploring the possibilities of how contemporary dance theatre can be made more accessible to a wider audience by using the structure of cabaret as a starting point. Cabaret proved to be a suitable framework since it combines various expressive media, is based on direct interaction with the audience, while at the same time allows space for humour, music, and critical reflection. Its open form enables a combination of clear ideas and abstract movement expression, which was also essential in the choreographic research of the graduation performance. The research was designed on multiple levels. In the theoretical part, I defined the key characteristics of French and German cabaret. In the practical part, I transferred these elements into contemporary dance and tested them in the creation of my own performance, where fragmentation, the intertwining of different expressive layers, and dramaturgical twists, which create tension between the abstract and the concrete—proved to be crucial. The empirical part, based on a survey, enabled a comparison of responses from different groups of spectators and revealed that the audience appreciates innovative, multilayered approaches that enhance the feeling of inclusion.
