Podatki so bili analizirani z uporabo Mann-Whitneyjevega testa.

Title:The impact of secondary school subject health education on health literacy levels
Abstract:The basis: Adolescent health literacy is recognised globally as a critical factor in improving health outcomes and reducing health inequalities. This doctoral thesis determines the level of health literacy of secondary school students with a health education course in their curriculum and compares it with secondary school students who do not have a course. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted based on a comparative analysis of secondary school students' health literacy and self-assessed health knowledge. An online questionnaire and a printed questionnaire on health literacy were used for the study, adapted to the target group of secondary school students. The study involved 907 high school students from across the country in their 3rd and 4th years of secondary school. There were 464 students with health education as a school subject and 443 without it. The independent samples t-test, the approximate values t-test, and the Mann-Whitney test were used to analyse the data. Results: The results showed that secondary school students who participated in health education programs achieved statistically significantly higher levels of basic (U = 67615,000, p < 0.001), critical (U = 82256,500, p = 0.001), and mental health literacy (U = 73849,500, p < 0.001) compared to secondary school students without it. The differences in numerical health literacy were not statistically significant (U = 86363.600, p = 0.854). Place of residence, number of days absent from school, and parental education were not associated with higher levels of health literacy among Slovenian secondary school students. Both groups of students had relatively low levels of critical health literacy. Discussion: The study confirms the importance of integrating health education into secondary school curricula to improve adolescents' essential, critical, and mental health literacy. The low level of critical health literacy in both groups of secondary school students is concerning, as developing critical evaluation of health information is crucial in the age of digital technology. Based on the results of this study, a model for a health education course was proposed that could contribute to an overall improvement in health literacy among secondary school students and, thus, to better health outcomes in the general population. The contribution to science is reflected in filling a research gap in identifying differences in levels of comprehensive health literacy between secondary school students with health education and those who do not have such a subject in their secondary school curriculum.
