Abstract:Teoretična izhodišča: Diplomsko delo obravnava arterijsko hipertenzijo pri starejših osebah, vključno z njenimi vrstami, dejavniki tveganja, simptomi in možnimi zdravstvenimi posledicami. Podatki so bili zbrani s strukturiranim vprašalnikom in analizirani z opisno statistiko.

Abstract:Theoretical background: The thesis deals with arterial hypertension in older people, including its types, risk factors, symptoms, and possible health consequences. Special attention is paid to methods of measuring blood pressure and non-pharmacological and pharmacological approaches to treatment. The role of nurses in supporting patients and raising awareness among the elderly is also emphasized. Methodology: The study is quantitative and was based on a survey of 100 elderly people from a retirement home and the local community. The data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. A pilot study was conducted prior to the research to confirm the suitability of the questionnaire. The survey was anonymous and voluntary, with assistance provided in completing it. Results: The results showed that 67% of respondents believe they are familiar with the signs and symptoms of arterial hypertension and risk factors. More than 69% of them measure their blood pressure every day, which indicates a high level of self-control. Knowledge of non-pharmacological measures was generally good, with healthcare professionals being the main source of information. Discussion: The results highlight the importance of health education and the role of nurses in improving the awareness and independence of elderly patients. It is recommended that targeted educational programs be further developed to increase the health literacy of older people.
