Abstract:Teoretična izhodišča: Srčni zastoj je eno najpogostejših življenjsko ogrožajočih stanj, kjer preživetje bolnika v največji meri določa čas do prve defibrilacije. Avtomatski eksterni defibrilator (v nadaljevanju AED) je ključni člen verige preživetja, saj zgodnja uporaba naprave bistveno poveča možnosti preživetja. Kljub temu je dostopnost AED še vedno omejena, predvsem v ruralnih okoljih, kjer so odzivni časi nujne medicinske pomoči daljši. Z uporabo iskalnih nizov v bazah PubMed, Google Scholar in COBISS smo sistematično izbrali 16 znanstvenih in strokovnih virov, ki obravnavajo dostavo AED z droni. Rezultati so potrdili zanesljivost sistemov, pozitivne uporabniške izkušnje laikov in odsotnost večjih varnostnih zapletov.

Abstract:Theoretical Background: Cardiac arrest is one of the most common life-threatening conditions, where patient survival is primarily determined by the time to first defibrillation. Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are a crucial element of the chain of survival, as their early use significantly increases the chances of survival. However, AED accessibility remains limited, especially in rural areas with longer emergency medical service response times. One promising solution is the use of drones to deliver AEDs directly to the scene of the event. Methods: A qualitative research method in the form of a descriptive-analytical literature review was applied. Using search strings in PubMed, Google Scholar, and COBISS, 16 scientific and professional sources addressing AED delivery by drones were systematically selected. A PRISMA diagram was used for the selection process, and the results were analyzed using descriptive and comparative methods. Results: The analysis of research and international pilot projects showed that drones were, in most cases, faster in delivering AEDs compared to ambulances, particularly in remote areas. Findings confirmed the reliability of the systems, positive bystander experiences, and the absence of major safety incidents. The main advantages include reduced time to first defibrillation and improved AED accessibility, while the main limitations involve technical, legal, and logistical barriers. Discussion: Based on the literature review, we conclude that the use of drones for AED delivery represents a realistic option for complementing the existing emergency medical services system, although there are several challenges regarding its implementation in the Slovenian context. Research findings indicate significant potential for improving survival rates in cases of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
