Abstract:It is a well-known fact that the population today is getting older. Projections show that by 2060 more than 14% of the total population in Slovenia will be older than 80 years. Worldwide, 16% of the total population will be older than 65 years by 2050. The increase in their share will lead to an increase of the number of people that will, due to their old age or illness, be weakened and become completely dependent on the help of others. Therefore we are witnessing a growing demand for long-term care, which is a form of care provided for someone who needs help with daily living activities due to accidents, disease, cognitive impairment, chronic illness or advanced age, usually over a longer period of time. Slovenia will also have to face the establishment of the long-term care system. The author of the thesis therefore deals with the subject of long-term care of the elderly. The objective is to define the organization of formal and informal care in Slovenia and determine what kind of long-term care is available. In the empirical part of the thesis, the author focuses on an overview and analysis of statistical data on long-term care for elderly people in Slovenia, which are quite important for the further development of the system of long-term supply arrangements with us.
