Abstract:Duševne motnje so stanja, ki vplivajo na pacientovo razmišljanje, počutje, razpoloženje in vedenje, zato je pomembna komunikacija fizioterapevta s pacientom, saj preko nje fizioterapevt pridobi ustrezne informacije o pacientu in vzpostavi ustrezen terapevtski odnos.

Title:The work of physiotherapist with the mentally dissabled
Abstract:Mental disorders are conditions that affect a patient's thinking, well-being, mood, and behaviour. Therefore, the physiotherapist's communication with the patient is important, because through it the physiotherapist obtains relevant information about the patient and establishes an appropriate therapeutic relationship. The purpose of the diploma work is to present mental disorders, the role of physiotherapists in working with them and the role of the family, and the stigma of the mentally disturbed by health care employees. The diploma thesis consists of a theoretical part with a review of the literature and a research part where the interview method is used. We found that a physiotherapist plays a rather important role in treating people with a mental disorder. It is important to use appropriate communication techniques, both verbal and nonverbal, and empathy. Better and more successful rehabilitation of mental disorders is influenced by the use of cognitive-behavioural therapy and psychotherapy in physiotherapy, as several studies have proven positive effects on mental disorders. A physiotherapist must include family and relatives in the rehabilitation program for people with a mental disorder, as they know the person with a mental disorder best and motivate them even when we are not around. As physiotherapists, we need to properly inform and teach family members to accept and support a person with a mental disorder. With the setting of realistic goals, the involvement of family and relatives, and a properly planned rehabilitation program, we can expect successful treatment of mental disorders and progress.
