Abstract:Scratch is a block oriented programming tool, used to create interactive stories, games and animations. It is designed for children between the ages of 8 and 16, later developed simplified version – ScratchJr – is appropriate for kids of even younger age. Scratch encourages different ways of thinking, approaches to problem solving and shows the importance of team working. All of that is useful not only in programming but also elsewhere in school and work. Through my work, I am introducing Scratch from a theoretical and practical point of view – what it offers; Scratch's usefulness and suitability for learning programming for children and whether it is usable in schools and independently at home; I checked the amount of online resources for working with Scratch. I note how the authors highlight the importance of thinking critically and creatively, especially considering the amount of information available nowadays. Tools such as Scratch are teaching us exactly that – thinking outside of the box.
