Metoda: Uporabljen je bil kritični pregled literature s pomočjo podatkovnih baz PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES, SAGE Journals, Science Direct, PubMed in Google Scholar.

Title:Effects of transcendental meditation on physical and mental health
Abstract:Theoretical Background: Physical and mental health, especially because of the pandemic of Covid 19, present a global problem. The aim of our study is to research how transcendental meditation works and study its effectiveness on physical and mental health. Methods: A critical literature review was performed using PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES, SAGE Journals, Science Direct, PubMed and Google Scholar databases. The search restriction criteria were: peer-reviewed articles and books published in scientific magazines, usage of good methodology, exploration of effects of transcendental meditation on physical and mental health, including comparison of transcendental meditation with other forms of meditations. The content analysis of the read material was used in reviewing the literature. Results: Out of 966.141 results, we reviewed the full text of the 533 results eligible for further inspection. In final analysis we included 205 articles. We discovered that all studies used good methodology design: the highest on the scale are 29 systematic reviews of randomised and nonrandomised clinical studies and meta-analysis, followed by 147 randomised and nonrandomised clinical studies, followed by 5 systematic reviews of correlation studies and 24 correlation studies. Findings: Transcendental meditation appears to be an effective technique, useful at prevention and treatment. Practice of transcendental meditation significantly reduces different types of headaches, stress, depression, anxiety, insomnia, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cholesterol, decreases alcohol and drug consumption, sensitivity of sympathetic nervous system, reduces symptoms of ADHD, PTSD, health care costs and significantly improves academic performance, creativity, intelligence, memory, productivity, cognitive and behavioral flexibility, improves effectiveness of the rehabilitation of offenders, provides healthier ageing and increases orderliness and integration of brain functioning. Some areas appear to be more researched than others, all are being showed as empirically opened and suitable for further research. Limitations of our review and suggestions for the future research are discussed.
