Title:The dangers of social media and their connection to the development of mental health in young people
Abstract:At first glance, social media works as a useful tool for everyday life. But we do not realize how social media has completely changed the nature, quantity and quality of our social interactions in recent years. The use of social media among young people is much higher than among older generations. Digital identity has become even more important than physical identity, and this can especially be seen among young people. Adolescence is a period in which young people undergo major changes on a physical, emotional, intellectual and behavioral level. This is also the period when they are looking for themselves, they like to explore and try new things, they set themselves challenges, and this is the period when their self-image, values and morals are formed. Before we even wake up, we're already reaching for our phone and updates on our popular social media platform. Adolescent use of social media can have a negative impact on health and development. Although most adolescents report that social media have a positive impact on their lives, several negative associations with social media are described in the research literature. The diploma thesis investigates the dangers of social media and their connection with the development of mental health in young people. In the theoretical part of the assignment, based on the literature read, we proved the existence of a positive connection between the dangers of social media and the development of mental health in adolescents. In the second part, or the empirical part of the research task, we tried to prove this with the help of quantitative methodology. The results obtained with the survey questionnaire showed us that the majority of young people are not aware of the dangers of using social media.
