Title:Vpliv socialnih spretnosti in temeljne pismenosti na življenjsko uspešnost odraslih Romov

Abstract:Pričujočo doktorsko disertacijo lahko uvrstimo v širše sociološko polje, saj proučuje pojmovanje življenjske uspešnosti pripadnikov romske skupnosti v Prekmurju in v Medžimurski županiji ter vpliv temeljne pismenosti in socialnih spretnosti na slednje. Teoretično se naslanja na sociološke koncepte in teoretična spoznanja Pierra Bourdieua, ki so aplicirani na družbene značilnosti romske skupnosti. Kultura ima v okviru razrednega sistema vlogo reproduciranja in proizvodnje družbenih razlik, kar se v sodobnosti jasno odraža tudi v romskih skupnostih, ki sicer postajajo vedno bolj integrirane v širšo družbeno skupnost, vendar posledično bolj dovzetne za vedno večji vpliv zunanjih dejavnikov na tradicionalne življenjske vzorce. To pa se odraža tudi v vedno večji družbeni stratifikaciji nekoč močno enotnih romskih skupin in načinu življenja v romskih naseljih. Stopnja temeljne pismenosti in razvitost socialnih spretnosti pa tudi generacijske razlike v razmišljanju so začele vplivati na pojmovanje življenjske uspešnosti pri odraslih Romih. Medtem ko so starejši Romi v mnogih pogledih še vedno pod močnim vplivom tradicionalnih norm in vrednot, mlajše generacije, katerih stopnja temeljne pismenosti je zaradi postopnega dviga izobrazbene ravni na višji ravni, odprto sprejemajo norme in vrednote legitimne kulture, slednje pa jim s pomočjo razvitih socialnih spretnosti omogoča tudi kopičenje večjih količin premostitvenega socialnega kapitala, kar jim olajša vključevanje v življenje širše družbene skupnosti. S pomočjo raziskave, ki je bila opravljena, smo ugotovili, da se romske skupnosti, ki sobivajo z nami, počasi spreminjajo, kar se odraža tudi v pojmovanju življenjske uspešnosti Romov različnih generacij, obenem pa ugotovili, da do manjših, a očitnih razlik prihaja tudi med Romi, ki bivajo v dveh sosednjih državah. Na tak način dokazujemo, da je vsaka romska skupina svoja entiteta in da le-teh, če želimo doseči vidne rezultate pri njihovem socialnem opolnomočenju, na smemo obravnavati enako. Primarni namen dela je namreč prispevati k razumevanju vpliva temeljne pismenosti in socialnih spretnosti na pojmovanje življenjske uspešnosti odraslih Romov ter identifikacija nadaljnjih možnosti za izboljšanje njihovega položaja v družbi.

Title:The impact of social skills and basic literacy on life success by adult Roma
Abstract:This doctoral dissertation studies the perception of life success of the members of the Roma community in Prekmurje and Medžimurje county and the impact of basic literacy and social skills on them and can therefore be placed in a wider sociological field. Theoretically, it draws on sociological concepts and theoretical insights of Pierre Bourdieu, which are applied to social characteristics of the Roma community. Culture within the class system has the role of producing and reproducing social differences, which is clearly reflected in contemporary Roma communities. Even though these have integrated into society, they have consequently become more vulnerable to the growing impact of external factors on traditional patterns of life. This is also reflected in the increasing social stratification of once strongly homogenous Roma groups and the way of life in Roma settlements. The level of basic literacy and social skills, as well as generational differences in thinking, have started to influence the perception of life success among Roma adults. While the elderly Roma are in many aspects still strongly influenced by traditional norms and values, the younger generations, whose level of basic literacy has increased due to a gradual increase of their education level, openly accept the norms and values of the legitimate culture. This, with the help of developed social skills, enables them to accumulate greater amount of bridging social capital, which facilitates their integration into society. The research conducted has shown that the Roma communities that coexist with us are slowly changing, which is also seen in the perception of life success of different generations. At the same time, we have found that there are small, but obvious, differences between Roma living in neighbouring countries. Thus, we have demonstrated that each Roma group is its own entity, so they should not be treated equally if we want to achieve tangible results in their social empowerment. The primary purpose of this work is to contribute to the understanding of the impact of basic literacy and social skills on the perception of life success of Roma adults and to identify further opportunities to improve their situation in society.
