Abstract:Cilj študije je raziskati in analizirati vpliv kulture na spletne igre na srečo in kulturni vpliv na individualno izbiro v primeru iger »slot«.

Title:Cultural impact in the Online Gambling Industry: What makes an online slot game so attractive within player's eyes?
Abstract:The study’s objective is to explore and analyze the impact of culture in online gambling and its influence on individual choice in the case of online slot games. We take gambling society as a more interdisciplinary research topic than in previous decades before risk society and responsible gambling become a part of modern cultures. Many studies focus on the negative and positive impacts of the gambling industry on society. Therefore, this study focused on analyzing individual choice in terms of culture. How do culture and cultural components speak to values, norms, beliefs, and symbols affect players involved in gambling activity? To analyze the cultural impact in online gambling, we used mixed methods. Primary research analyses slot games based on popularity rates (1–10) and compares the rates with cultural components, game features, and risk factors. At the same time, the secondary analysis compares risk taking and adventure inclination to cultural values and beliefs relevant to this study (democracy, work values, self-expression values, etc.) taken from the World Values Survey data (wave 6). The theoretical review also presents a cultural review of cultural dimensions by Hofstede and Minkov and summarizes the gambling keys used to finalize our conclusions. The study finds that culture significantly impacts individual choice in the case of online slot games. Individuals are more likely to choose a game within a specific cultural similarity. For example, European societies are more likely to select adventure games when Orthodox zones are more attractive to casino themes and Asian themes. Moreover, cultures in development are more likely to take higher risks than modern societies. The study also proposed the four-type gambling model: Pro-gambling (modern) gambling culture, Gambling culture in transition, Simple gambling cultures, and Denied gambling cultures.
