Title:Youth and the Challenges of Individualization
Abstract:The bachelor's thesis titled "Youth and the Challenges of Individualization" focuses on researching the social challenges faced by female students from Bosnia and Herzegovina during their studies in Slovenia. The main objectives of the thesis include examining the strategies employed by young students to cope with social challenges abroad, analyzing the influence of identity and belonging, and investigating the motivation for moving abroad. The research is based on qualitative interviews with eight female students aged between 22 and 25 who chose to study in Slovenia. The study places significant emphasis on the impact of family support, financial independence, language barriers, and feelings of loneliness on their well-being and academic success. The thesis reveals that identity and belonging play a pivotal role in perceiving social challenges, while language barriers initially hinder social integration. Family support, friendships, and the local community are instrumental in successful integration and managing feelings of loneliness. Financial independence presents a challenge, but with adaptability and perseverance, students develop strategies to overcome these difficulties. The purpose of the thesis is to contribute to a better understanding of the experiences of young female students studying abroad and underscore the significance of social support, adaptability, and the development of new skills in addressing the challenges of the international student experience. The results of the thesis are vital for comprehending the dynamics of youth international mobility and promoting better conditions for their adjustment and success in foreign studies.
