Abstract:Diplomska naloga raziskuje starševsko izgorelost in njeno povezanost s perfekcionizmom. Zaskrbljenost zaradi napak in dvom v dejanja sta s starševsko izgorelostjo močno pozitivno povezana, osebni standardi, starševska kritika in starševska pričakovanja zmerno pozitivno, organiziranost pa šibko, vendar pozitivno povezana.

Title:PARENTAL BURNOUT AND PERFECTIONISM
Abstract:The diploma thesis explores parental burnout and its connection to perfectionism. We used the quantitative method of research to examine detailly the links between perfectionism in general and parental perfectionism and parental burnout. The analysis was based on the individual dimensions of perfectionism in general and parental perfectionism in particular, and the forms in which both types of perfectionism are expressed. We wanted to know if there were differences in the level of perfectionism in general and in the level of parental burnout between mothers and fathers. We have further investigated whether there are differences in the level of parental perfectionism and parental burnout among parents who take care of children with special needs, and other parents. The results of the analysis showed that perfectionism in all dimensions is positively linked to parental burnout. Concerns about mistakes and doubts about their actions are strongly linked to parental burnout in a positive sense; personal standards, parental criticism, and parental expectations are linked in a moderately positive way; and organization is linked weakly but still positively. The two dimensions of parenting perfectionism are also positively linked to parental burnout. Parental concerns are strongly linked, and parental endeavours are linked in a moderate way. Perfectionism in general and parental perfectionism are positively linked to parental burnout in all three categories. Very strong connection is manifested in both socially prescribed general perfectionism and socially prescribed parental perfectionism. Perfectionism is a personality trait that makes an individual set extremely high standards, and thus developing the belief that their worth is conditioned by the achievement of those standards. This inner voice and harsh criticism affect the individual’s performance in various spheres, including parenting. Perfectionism is one of the major risk factors for parental burnout. Modern parenting is often very stressful and full of challenges. Prolonged exposure to stress can lead parents to severe exhaustion, even burnout. Too little is said about parental burnout. Therefore, it is necessary to explore it from different perspectives and offer parents as much information, support, and strategies as possible to prevent parental burnout and its consequences.
